Michael should have never succeeded – the statistics aren’t kind to boys who grow up with lives marked by parental abuse and drug addiction. But his story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

Instead of succumbing to the weight of his past, Michael harnessed his hardship and used it as a catalyst for transformation.

Determined to break his family’s generation curse, 19-year-old Michael founded Coastal Paving and Excavating. Failure was not an option. He had $500 to his name and would soon have a family to support.

Today, Michael’s business employs more than 50 people in Monterey, CA. He enjoys giving back to the community alongside his wife and 2 children.
